:: Updates to SPAM mail processing ~ 03-31-2008
Effective the evening of March 26th, BlockInternetServices implemented updates to spam processing rules.
All mail that arrives at our mail server is examined for Viruses and weighted against a large collection of SPAM characteristics.
In the event of a Virus, the email is removed, and no notification is delivered.
As for spam, each email is weighted against many tests to see if it ‘looks’ like SPAM. Each of these tests adds to the SPAM score and attaches this rating to message. Typically any mail rated at either higher than 4.0 or 5.0 (this is a per user setting) becomes marked as SPAM and forwarded onto your mailbox.
A change as of March 26th, any message scoring higher than 15, is discarded. The initial stats indicate that this results in a 75% reduction in SPAM.
Mail Scoriing more that 4.0/5.0 and less than 15 will continue to be forwarded onto your account marked as *****SPAM***** for you to determine if this is truly the case.
